Training sessions last two-hours and are are held on Mondays at 6:00 PM. Magic University Location and Training Schedule Chicago Trainings are held once a year in the fall, typically starting around September.
Please consider selecting as many hospitals that interest you when applying. So, while advancing to Magic University is not guaranteed, the more hospital interest and availability one has, the more spots there are for potential placement. This is a set schedule, with limited spots available. Hospital service is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Saturday mid-mornings. MAGICAL BACKGROUND FOR KIDS PROFESSIONAL
Experienced Magic U Trainers teach professional level magic, at no cost to volunteers, to certify our volunteers to work one-on-one at a patient’s bedside. No Magic Background Necessary - Learn Everything at Magic University You don’t need to know magic to be a Hospital Magician! OHM teaches it all in Magic University, a 12-week course with a blend of in-person sessions, virtual meetings, online video, and solo practice. We believe in helping sick kids get their magic back. Because we believe doctors can’t heal everything and that laughter is the best medicine. As a Hospital Magician, not only will you perform magic one-on-one at kids’ bedsides, you’ll also empower them by teaching them a magic trick.
Our volunteers tell us that their visits are the best part of their week - they leave energized and inspired. OHM is currently recruiting top-notch folks to join this amazing community of volunteers to help sick kids get their magic back. You will walk in and bring laughter, hope, wonder, and strength to vulnerable kids. As a volunteer Hospital Magician, you will get to change that. This fear causes kids to lose energy, hope, and ultimately withdraw from their treatment, and their families. Every time a person walks into a child’s hospital room, the child expects to be poked, scanned, drugged, or receive more bad news.
Open Heart Magic (OHM) is a nonprofit organization that inspires anxious kids dealing with difficult illness, unexpected hospital stays, and frightening medical situations, to sit up, laugh, and face their situation with courage through a personal bedside magic interaction.
